At Holt, it is our intention to increase the science capital of each child: we want children to recognise the relevance of science in their lives and be scientifically literate so they can discuss scientific matters. We want to harness their natural curiosity about the awe and wonder of the magnificent creation on which we live: enabling them to question, explore and seek understanding with an open mind, knowing that science is an evolving body of knowledge acquired through a systematic process. We intend to equip children with the requisite understandings and knowledge of the main concepts of primary science and teach them the skills to be enquiry-based learners. We intend making science memorable, engaging and challenging, learning within relevant contexts. We intend that pupils see science as accessible to all learners and pupils can see how scientific matters contribute to and are enhanced by other areas of the curriculum.
