At Holt, we intend to make learning languages fun, exciting and inspirational, fostering in our pupils a hunger to travel and learn about other cultures. Children will progressively learn, use and apply a growing bank of vocabulary, language skills and grammatical knowledge organised around age-appropriate topics and themes. We intend to create building blocks of language that become more complex, fluent and authentic as we progress through the school. Learning a second language offers pupils the opportunity to explore relationships between language and identity, develop a deeper understanding of other cultures and the world around them with a better awareness of self, others and cultural differences. Pupils will finish their Holt Primary School journey, confident in their ability to speak and understand beginner French. We intend to inspire children to continue to learn French and develop a curiosity to learn other languages during their Secondary School journey.
